Cyprus Overview | Property in Cyprus
Although Cyprus is a small country, its cultural heritage is vast. Stretching over 9000 years, the island has remarkable ruins, historically significant sites and is reputed to be the birthplace of the mythological goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite.
This romantic legend best describes what property for sale in Cyprus has to offer - traditional villages which enhance and complement a wonderfully natural environment, simple, serene rhythms of rural life, sandy beaches with majestic sunsets, real folk custom and authentic traditional Cypriot cuisine, all enhanced by the famous hospitality of the people of the island.
Cyprus boasts an impressive average of more than 320 days of sunshine per year, with cool sea breezes creating a pleasant atmosphere around the coastal areas, panoramic mountainous regions providing year round enjoyment and even ski facilities during the winter season (January - March).
The island's infrastructure is excellent - driving is as per the United Kingdom, on the left-hand side and major towns are linked by a network of modern roads. Cyprus boasts an excellent telecommunications system and is proud of its quality of life, low cost of living, its high standard of education and great tax incentives.
Most importantly, the island offers 'peace of mind'. A feeling of security prevails, making one feel safe, surely a major consideration for the foreign investor.
As the third largest island in the Mediterranean, Cyprus has been occupied by a succession of civilisations over the past 2000 years, all of whom have left their mark. History abounds everywhere; from the three great Crusader castles built in the time of Richard the Lionheart, to the Roman ruins at Salamis, each conquering empire has contributed to the beauty and culture of this remarkable island.
The past two years have seen an explosion in the Northern Cyprus property market, sort of like Spain in the 1980's. Just like the fall of communism in Spain opened up a landscape of unspoilt beaches and rural towns, so here we now have Northern Cyprus.
Virtually closed off to the world after the Greek Cypriot atrocities, against Turkish Cypriots caused the Turkish army to intervene. Leaving the international community to recognise the Greek Cypriots as the supposed government of the whole island.
Now the North Cypriot coast is ripe for investment, due to its tranquil lifestyle and untouched nature. Plus, due to the infancy of the construction industry, prices are still incredibly low.
