The Italian government is to inject 4million Euros into the recession struck Sicilian economy. The Inter-ministerial Committee for Economic planning (CIPE) authorised the release of the funds this week.
This will also boost the emerging Calabrian economy, and property market according to overseas property specialists Azure Overseas.
"The 4million alone will benefit the Calabrian economy as well as Sicily, both through the various links between the two regions, and through some of the money flowing in the Sicilian economy being spent in Calabria," said Azure director Frank Crowley.
"We can also hope that some of the money will be used to increase tourism to Sicily, which again will further benefit Calabria, potentially even increasing the occupancy of Calabria rental properties," he added.
The 4million is the start of a concentrated campaign to regenerate the various economies of Italy's regions. Calabria is likely to receive stimulus cash of its own when the government reconvenes after its summer recess.
The effect the international downturn has had on Calabria is yet to be known, which means that it can be argued that there has been no effect.
In 2008 Calabria property was growing into a very popular choice for overseas property investors; who were buying off plan properties with anticipated 4-6% rental yields, increasing to 6-8% in forthcoming years. There is nothing to suggest that these forecasts must be adapted because of the current economic climate, because it is likely that Calabria's tourism growth will resume next year.
