Property in Costa del Sol
The Costa del Sol boasts about 300km of the Spanish Mediterranean Coast belonging to the Provinces of Granada, Malaga and Cadiz.
The coast is protected from northern winds by a mountain chain, which in places reaches right down to the edge of the sea. With a mild climate, very little rain and gentle sea breezes, the plants are semi-tropical - so you get lots of swaying palm trees and gorgeous, brightly coloured flowers and cacti. It's the mix of very different countryside - mountains, valleys full of orchards and the coast - that give the area such a special feel. And as well as the smart comfortable new developments, yacht harbours, golf courses and lively shopping and nightlife centres, you don't have to go far to find traditional, peaceful towns and villages that have stood still in time.
While the beach culture is at the heart of the Costa del Sol, Andalusi?an culture is also still thriving, with lots of fiestas, Holy Week, flamenco competitions and bullfights. Malaga airport is the gateway to the Costa del Sol with regular, year round flights from over 20 UK airports and some fantastic low fares.
The biggest attraction for many of the estimated 500,000 Brits already living in Spain has to be the weather. In southern Spain the climate is near perfect, with 325 days of sunshine a year and a pleasant sea breeze taking the edge off scorching summer temperatures. In Malaga, the average yearly high temperature is 72° F (22° C). Compare this to Brighton for example, which shivers through 64 days of sub-zero temperatures a year and hits average highs of just 57° F (13° C). However, in recent years, more discerning and sophisticated tastes have meant that home buyers are looking for much more than warm weather and a plate of paella on the beach. The very best modern medical services are close at hand with international hospitals and advanced medical facilities available throughout the Costa del Sol.
The Spanish National Health Service has often been crowned as the best in Europe. A wide choice of International schools are also available, offering educational standards comparable with any major city.
